While trying to find ideas for small bathrooms, whether it is a renovation, or whether you are buying a new house instead, choosing which colors to use for walls and bathroom furnishings can become an obstacle. If then, as it more and more often happens, the bathrooms are also small in size, the choice of color becomes essential in order not to transform the place where we find a minimum of privacy, where we can relax in the evening after a long day of work or face the first moments of the day, in an inhospitable and narrow space.
Attention to detail
If you are simply giving your old bathroom a "refresh", you will certainly have already installed the sanitary ware, probably also some furnishing elements but above all the fixtures, all elements which are often characterized by different colors. Not taking this into account when deciding on the colors of the walls would be an unforgivable mistake, especially in the case of wooden frames where the grain and the essence of the wood must harmonize with the new color. When you decide to redo the bathroom it is good practice to create a color palette that takes into account all the elements that will then make up the environment. The sources of inspiration can be infinite from specialized magazines to internet searches, but don't just focus on the bathrooms but also pay attention to the color combinations of the other rooms in the house, you may find the right mix even in the most unexpected places. To compose your color palette you can use samples of tiles, wallpaper, fabrics and color guides, but you could also use common objects or natural elements that have just that shade you were looking for. Give character to spaces
Closely connected to the choice of colors is the character you want to give to your bathroom. Style and character often move hand in hand and each style is associated with a very particular mood, the neatness of the modern minimal, for example, involves a rigorous and orderly character, while a palette that includes bright colors brings us more Mediterranean and solar styles. Always test the colors
Even if you now feel confident in the colors you want to use, it is always good practice to purchase samples of the different colors and apply them on small portions of the walls spaced at least 80-90 cm apart in order to have an exact perception of the single color. If possible, the best solution would be to do these tests in different positions of the room subjected to different degrees of illumination, going from areas in bright light to darker corners and points in half light. But won't it be too much?
If your concern is that you don't want to use too many colors, you can try using different solutions for small bathrooms. So no dark colors?
You have certainly heard how dark colors tend to reduce the perception of spaces, so they should be automatically excluded from ideas for small bathrooms. In reality if dosed with precision they can add a comfortable touch and discreet intimacy to the whole environment. To obtain this effect, however, some conditions are necessary: the fixtures and frames should be light, in shades of white, ivory or ice, the ceramic coating, also always light, should stop at about 1.2 meters high and the ceiling must be white or in tone with the fixtures. In this way, the choice of the color of the walls can also include dark tones such as bottle green, petrol blue or anthracite, to create contrasts of great elegance.
